Home Bio Music Gig Guide Christmas Tribute

UWHSBB have been around since 1978, are former RCA Recording Artists, and are members of the Victoria Music Hall of Fame. Touring extensively back in the 80s, they opened for such legends as Muddy Waters, Joe Cocker, James Cotton, Koko Taylor, and Paul Butterfield, to name just a few. As well, this past January 2015, UWHSBB won the honour of representing BC in Memphis at the International Blues Challenge.

Their new CD “Still Burnin it Up” was released last year, and due to popular demand, they are looking forward to bringing their special Christmas Show to Victoria for an encore season in 2015. This show is a collection of traditional Blues Christmas Tunes representing each decade from the 20s through to the 60s, and written or recorded by the likes of Louis Jordan, Big Joe Turner, BB King, Eric Clapton, Charles Brown, Etta James, and so many more.

UWHSBB is made up of members Hank (Uncle Wiggly) Lionhart – Vocals, Lonnie Glass – Bass, Mark Comerford – Guitar, Bryn Badel – Trumpet, Dave Rows/Paul Wainwright – Sax, Andy Graffiti – Drums, and will be featuring special guests Dennis Meneely, former member of Streetheart/Wynn Gogol – Keyboards, and Deb Rhymer – Vocals.

In addition, UWHSBB is very pleased to feature a very special guest this year—the amazing David Vest! David is a Maple Blues Award winner who now lives in Canada, but who is also an authentic, Southern-bred, boogie-woogie piano player, blues shouter, and world-travelled entertainer. By 1958 he had already witnessed performances by Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash. He saw Bo Diddley, Jimmy Reed, and John Lee Hooker in the prime of their careers. And by the time he turned 21, he found himself on stage with Big Joe Turner, who said that David Vest’s playing made him feel like he was back in Kansas City. "Vest’s bio reads like the history of rock ‘n roll & blues … he’s among a select group that includes Ronnie Hawkins and Jerry Lee Lewis."

This show played to sold-out, packed houses and standing ovations in Alberta last winter, and enjoyed rave reviews locally following their various Island performances.

Not your typical Christmas Show of some of the more easily recognizable Christmas Carols, this Christmas show gives you a look into the soul of some fabulous Holiday Blues Songs written by the very Legends of the Blues themselves!
